Your "Science" Experiment

Remember when you were a kid how you did experiments? Maybe they were literal science experiments. I remember playing around with my brother's science kit, making things foam and sizzle (although I was disappointed that I never got them to blow up). Maybe you experimented with how you

Are You Enjoying the Miracle? - Time Management Tips #378

A hugely important point of good time management skills is to enjoy your life. This includes when you are working - a major part of the day for most of us. But other times as well. Those miracle breaks, I call them, when you see the miracle of life.

My neighbors got a puppy. His name is Jackson and he's cute as only a puppy can be. My dog, Emma,
who is almost three years old, loves to play with Jackson. Watching them chase each other,
roll over and over, nipping at each other, makes me laugh every time.

Did you have a good laugh today? Did you see some evidence of the miracle of life?

Life's Unpleasantries - Time Management Tips #187

The land surveyors showed up last week. The nice woodlot next door is about to become two duplexes, with the corner of one situated twelve feet away from the corner of our house. Ugh. We knew it would happen "someday," but like most humans, we engage in denial when helpful.

Recognizing the complete waste of time it is to be irritated or frustrated, I decided that every moment I am irritated by the noise this summer, as I work in my home office right next door, I am going to take it as an opportunity to be grateful.

Grateful for this wonderful home we have, for a great neighborhood, for good health, for fulfilling work. My step-daughter returned from an aid trip in Nicaragua last week. She described people living in shacks literally in a dump (or landfill, as we call them).

Sometimes we have something to be unhappy about. But not often.

So today, I choose to be happy and grateful.

Learning to get a life

Among time management skills, I love what Myrtle S.Potter has to say. She runs sales, marketing, develpment and managed care for Genentech, Inc, a $3.3 billion biotech business. I'd guess that keeps her pretty busy!

In Fast Company she was quoted: "I've learned to get a life. It is very easy to work 24 hours a day...I've learned that is it unnecessary, and you can get tremendous help by hiring exceptionally bright people who know how to do the job oftentimes better than you do. I've learned to bring more balance into my life, and I'm enjoying it. I like it a lot."

It's 3:30 a.m. I'm listening, Myrtle!!

Jump! Time management tips for you

Many of us still remember The Pointer Sisters. I love their song, Jump! It's a guaranteed energy booster for me. And, in the service of time management skills, jumping helps me be more productive AND happy. How so? I have one of those mini-rebounders, you know, the little trampoline jobbies.

Not only is it great for my health (lymph system) it's fun and can change my mood fast, when needed. Let me know what you use to refresh yourself and get back on track.

Monday Morning Blues?

It's never been easy for me to get up in the morning. A lot of negative voices start yammering. I've learned the best thing for me to do is to just GET UP and get going. This cuts the negative tapes in their tracks. The rest of the day I am my normal optimistic self.

Speaking of tracks, if just getting up isn't enough to get rid of the blues, I'll put on a great track. Like right now, "If You Want To" by Melissa Etheridge. I can always count on Melissa to get me going. What do you do?

Don't let those Monday morning blues stop you for longer than a minute!

Lillies and realism - time management tips #476

I made my goals for June and did my best to make them realistic. Many of us tend to expect we can achieve way more than we ever are actually able to. And then we ignore all that we did accomplish - usually, a great deal - and still feel bad. Crazy or what?

So now, when I feel the day is flying past, I remind myself, I've got a whole month. And it's not even June yet, and I've ticked off a few items already.

As we apply time management tips and skills, we do well to remember the lillies of the field. We toil and spin altogether too much.

I prefer to trust that I am on the right path and that "all is well, and all will be well, in the garden." Because you know what? Most of the time, it does work out that way.
